AI bots

AI bots at a glance, every entry with a source

Which bot belongs to whom, what does it crawl for and which token controls it? Every detail comes from the operator's documentation.

In short
  • The list names 26 tokens from 10 operators. Every row links to the operator's documentation.
  • The major providers separate training, search and fetching on user request. You can block training and still appear as a source in AI search.
  • Bots that fetch a page at a user's request often follow robots.txt only to a limited extent.
  • List as of 15 Oct 2026.

Four types of AI bots

What an operator uses the content for determines what a block in robots.txt achieves. The list is therefore sorted by purpose.

What these types mean for your robots.txt, and what a rule that blocks training but allows AI search looks like, is explained in the guide AI crawlers.

Search and index

Googlebot and Applebot serve several purposes. If you block them, you also disappear from classic search.

Fetching on user request

These bots do not crawl on their own. They fetch a page when a person asks about it in the assistant or shares a link. Several operators state that robots.txt does not always apply in this case.

Verifying authenticity

A user agent is easy to fake. Most operators therefore publish the IP ranges of their bots. Compare the address from your log with these lists before you attribute a request to an operator.

Anthropic points out that blocking by IP address can prevent the opt-out, because the bot can then no longer read your robots.txt.

Not on the list

Older lists name further identifiers, for example anthropic-ai, Claude-Web, Bytespider, cohere-ai or YouBot. On 15 Oct 2026 we found no current operator documentation for these identifiers. They are therefore not in the table.
