What SEO monitoring means today

Vendors use the term SEO monitoring for two different things. Suites such as SISTRIX or Seobility mainly track rankings and visibility. Tools such as Conductor, Lumar or Little Warden monitor the website itself, meaning status codes, content, robots.txt and sitemaps. This page covers both types. The focus is on technical monitoring.

What sets the tools apart

Most of the differences come down to three questions. Which pages does the tool check? How often does it check them? And what happens between two checks? Marketing copy likes to talk about “24/7” or “real-time”. The documentation is usually more precise, and that is exactly where we looked for every tool.

How often the tools really check

  • Conductor checks the robots.txt every 5 minutes. Pages sit in a queue, and important ones come up more often. Conductor does not publish an interval per page.
  • Botify AlertPanel checks a list of selected URLs once every 24 hours.
  • seoClarity Content Guard checks selected page groups daily or hourly.
  • Little Warden fetches each URL you add at most hourly and does not check the rest of the website at all.
  • Lumar and Audisto crawl on a schedule, hourly if you want. Neither documents any check between two crawls.
  • Sitebulb itself recommends scheduled audits, for example daily or weekly, to approximate continuous checking.
  • SISTRIX crawls at most once a week. In between, it checks every minute whether the homepage is reachable.
  • searchVIU crawls the entire website every week. Page Watch checks the most important pages continuously, spread across the day, from 1,000 pages depending on the project. If Page Watch detects a change, the alert usually arrives within a few minutes by email, Slack, Teams or webhook. searchVIU checks the robots.txt every 15 minutes, sitemaps and llms.txt daily.

When an error is noticed

Monitoring sees what is live. How quickly an error is noticed depends on how often the tool checks the affected page. searchVIU detects errors quickly after they go live. Before the go-live, the staging crawl does the checking (Staging Monitoring is in its pilot phase). Lumar Protect checks SEO rules as early as the CI/CD pipeline.

Why teams look for a monitoring tool

A common trigger is an error that was noticed too late because the existing tool only crawls at longer intervals. Other teams are looking because their tool has changed. ContentKing is now called Conductor Monitoring and is part of the Conductor platform packages. Ryte has belonged to Semrush since 2024, and Semrush to Adobe since April 2026. Conductor, Lumar and Botify only give prices on request, which makes budget planning harder.

Five ways to monitor a website

The thirteen tools solve the task in five ways. A tool can have several layers, and it is classified by its monitoring core. The graphic shows schematically how each approach checks over one week.

Pages continuously by priority

Requests pages again and again between crawls, important ones more often. Conductor puts all pages within the booked volume into a queue for this. Botify checks a URL list daily, seoClarity selected page groups up to hourly.

MTWTFSS
Full crawl plus Page Watch

Crawls the entire website every week, more often if you want, and checks the most important pages continuously, spread across the day. This is how searchVIU works.

MTWTFSS
Scheduled crawls

Captures the entire website at fixed times, often very quickly. Changes show up when two crawls are compared, and the tool checks nothing in between. This is how Lumar, Audisto, Sitebulb and Screaming Frog work.

MTWTFSS
Watchdog for URL lists

Checks the pages you add at a fixed interval and compares them with the previous version. The tool does not crawl the rest of the website. This is how Little Warden and SEORadar work.

MTWTFSS
Suite with audit crawl

The focus is on rankings, visibility, keywords and backlinks. On top of that come an audit crawl at a fixed interval and an uptime check for one URL. This is how SISTRIX, Semrush and Seobility work.

MTWTFSS
Crawl of the websiteindividual requests in betweenSchematic, one week from Monday to Sunday

The boundaries are fluid. Scheduled crawls at high speed come close to ongoing monitoring, and a queue across all pages also takes time to complete a full cycle on large websites. What matters is which pages are checked how often and what happens between two checks.

When you don't need a new tool

  • The website is small, rarely changes and one person keeps an eye on it. Search Console and an occasional crawl with Screaming Frog are often enough.
  • A suite such as SISTRIX or Seobility already covers your rankings. In that case, only technical monitoring is missing, as an addition.
  • Your main concern is whether the website is reachable from several regions. Specialized uptime tools exist for that.

Ryte and Site Intelligence, Semrush's enterprise offering, do not have their own card. For Site Intelligence, Semrush mentions “Daily and on-demand audits” and speaks of “real-time monitoring”, but the interval and number of checked pages are not documented. You can find more on the Ryte alternative page.

The tools in detail

Every card has the same fields. The information comes from the vendors' websites, pricing pages and documentation, last checked on 17.10.2026.

The table shows eleven of the thirteen tools, otherwise it would be too wide. Sitebulb and SEORadar only appear in the cards; they work similarly to Lumar and Audisto, and to Little Warden respectively. It does not have to be a single tool. Some teams combine a suite for rankings with technical monitoring and use Screaming Frog for individual questions.

What searchVIU does not replace

If one of these points matters to you, another tool is a better fit or complements searchVIU.

Every page continuously

searchVIU crawls the entire website once a week, more often if you want. Page Watch checks the most important pages continuously, from 1,000 depending on the project. Conductor requests all pages within the booked volume again and again in a queue.

robots.txt and sitemaps at the tightest interval

searchVIU checks the robots.txt every 15 minutes and sitemaps daily. Conductor checks the robots.txt every 5 minutes, and Conductor and Little Warden check sitemaps up to hourly.

Visibility index, keyword database and backlinks

Suites such as SISTRIX and Seobility offer this. searchVIU offers Rank Tracking as a weekly add-on.

Domain, DNS and availability checks

searchVIU does not check domain expiry, DNS changes or malware lists; it warns 14 days before the SSL certificate expires. Specialized uptime tools exist for availability from several regions.

Quick audit on your own computer

searchVIU runs in the cloud, and you get started via a demo. For a quick ad-hoc crawl, Screaming Frog remains useful.

SSO, German interface, build stop

There is no single sign-on. The interface is in English, consulting is available in German and English. searchVIU crawls staging regularly, but there is no integration that stops a build.

Frequently asked questions

Does searchVIU report in real time?

Page Watch checks the most important pages continuously, spread across the day, from 1,000 pages depending on the project. If Page Watch detects a change, the alert usually arrives within a few minutes by email, Slack, Teams or webhook. searchVIU checks the robots.txt every 15 minutes, and the weekly full crawl covers all other pages.

What is the difference between an SEO audit and SEO monitoring?

An audit is a snapshot. The tool crawls the website once and lists what stands out. Monitoring checks again and again, compares with the last state and reports changes. Many tools on this page can do both and set different priorities.

How often does an SEO monitoring tool check?

That depends on the layer. Conductor checks the robots.txt every 5 minutes, searchVIU every 15. The tools check individual pages hourly, daily or in a queue without a published interval. Most crawl the entire website weekly or on their own schedule. None of the documentation we read shows that a tool checks all pages constantly.

Does SEO monitoring detect errors before they cost traffic?

Monitoring sees errors as soon as they are live. The more often a tool checks the affected page, the shorter an error goes unnoticed. searchVIU detects errors quickly after they go live. Before the go-live, the staging crawl does the checking. Staging Monitoring is currently in its pilot phase. Lumar Protect checks SEO rules as early as the CI/CD pipeline and can stop a build.

What do large shops use when Screaming Frog is no longer enough?

For regular, automatic crawls without their own computer, large shops use a cloud crawler. searchVIU crawls the entire website every week in the cloud, with every URL rendered in Chrome, more often if you want. In between, Page Watch checks the most important pages. Lumar and Audisto crawl on a schedule up to hourly, and Botify links the crawl with log files. There is more on this on the Screaming Frog alternative page.

Do I need an uptime tool as well?

SISTRIX checks every minute whether the homepage is reachable, Seobility checks one URL every one to three minutes depending on the package. If you want to monitor availability from several regions, use a specialized uptime tool. SEO monitoring looks at other things, such as status codes, content, robots.txt and internal links.

How much do SEO monitoring tools cost?

Public entry prices start at €29.99 per month (Little Warden). Seobility starts at €59.90, SISTRIX at €119, Audisto at €199 with 10,000 pages and searchVIU at €399 with 50,000 URLs included. Screaming Frog costs €245 per year per user. Conductor, Lumar and Botify only give prices on request. The tools use different units, such as URLs, HTML pages, URL tests per week or crawl requests including resources. So compare the scope first and then the price.

How we compared

We read the vendors' websites, pricing pages and documentation, as of 17.10.2026. Third-party reviews and estimates are not included. Only the definition of SEO monitoring draws on the category at OMR Reviews. We did not use accounts or trials for this comparison. The information on searchVIU comes from our own product.

Vendors change their products and prices, and we may also overlook something. If any information seems outdated or wrong to you, write to us. We will check it and update the page.
