What gets checked

Around 20 checks, sorted by impact

At the top are the findings that can keep a page out of the index. Below them come signals for the snippet and further notes on content and technology.

  • Availability: status code, redirects, HTTPS.
  • Indexing: noindex in meta robots and X-Robots-Tag, robots.txt block, canonical.
  • Snippet: title, meta description, Open Graph.
  • Content: H1, lang attribute, alt texts, internal links, structured data.
  • Technology: viewport, HTML size, number of scripts, share of content that only appears through JavaScript.

The values for title and description are guidelines. Google truncates snippets by pixel width.

After a release

What happens when a release hits lots of pages?

The check shows one URL at one point in time. An error after a release, though, often affects many pages at once.

  • SEO CheckOne URL, around 20 checks, result in up to a minute.
  • Page WatchYour most important pages continuously, spread across the day, from 1,000 pages depending on the project.
  • AlertWhen Page Watch detects a change, you usually get an email within a few minutes. Also by Slack, Teams or webhook.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SEO Check free?
Yes. You see the result straight away. We only ask for your work email for the CSV export.
Why does the check only test one URL?
The check fully loads and renders the page, plus the robots.txt. For a whole website, there is the SEO Audit.
What do you store from my request?
We store the addresses you entered, the result and your IP address to run the tool. We don't store page content. We also use the checked domain to see which companies are interested in the topic.
Where do the limits for title and description come from?
They are guidelines from practice. Google truncates snippets by pixel width and sometimes rewrites them itself.
