What Lumar, formerly Deepcrawl, is today

Deepcrawl has been called Lumar since September 29, 2022. The crawler has become an English-language cloud platform for technical website health. Alongside the crawler, there are the apps Analyze, Monitor, Protect and Impact, plus modules for technical SEO, AI visibility, site speed and accessibility. Lumar does not publish prices. Lumar charges based on a URL allowance per billing period, and extra features such as stored HTML use credits. You get a quote via a form.

What Lumar does well

  • The crawler is very fast, according to Lumar up to 450 URLs per second. Crawls can be scheduled up to hourly, and you choose the start time in five-minute steps.
  • Protect checks SEO rules in the CI/CD pipeline, for example in GitHub, Jenkins or Azure DevOps, and can stop a build.
  • Accessibility according to WCAG 2.0 to 2.2 and Lighthouse for many URLs run on the same platform as the SEO checks.
  • Lumar measures AI visibility in six engines, up to daily and with two years of history.
  • The MCP server lets you read data and also start crawls or create tasks.
  • For procurement at large companies, there is SAML SSO, an IP allowlist, four roles and SOC 2 Type 2.

How Lumar monitors the website

Lumar works with scheduled crawls. Alerts are triggered when a crawl has finished and a report exceeds a threshold. The thresholds are based on the number of affected URLs, and Smart Alerts adjust them automatically. There is no dedicated monitoring between two crawls. If you want to check important pages more often, you schedule additional crawls, for example hourly for a URL list. Each of these crawls counts against the URL allowance. Lumar loads the robots.txt with every crawl; dedicated robots.txt monitoring is not documented.

The last seven crawls stay active, and Lumar archives older ones after 60 days. Lumar stores the HTML and screenshots per URL as an extension, for additional credits and for 90 days.

Why teams look for a Deepcrawl alternative

The reasons usually come down to the way of working. Without a quote, the price is hard to assess. You have to plan the URL allowance for additional crawls as well as the credits for extensions. Other teams want to catch changes between crawls or weight alerts by clicks instead of by number of URLs. For relaunches, there is no redirect mapping, and there is no rank tracking. Lumar only shows log files as a summary with URL and bot hits. The website and interface are in English only.

Which type of Lumar alternative do you need?

The tools on this page check a website in five ways. The graphic shows schematically how each type works over one week.

Scheduled crawls

Captures the entire website at fixed times, often very quickly. In between, the tool checks nothing. This is how Lumar, Oncrawl, Audisto and Sitebulb Cloud work.

MTWTFSS
Full crawl plus Page Watch

Crawls the entire website every week, more often if you want, and checks the most important pages continuously, spread across the day. This is how searchVIU works.

MTWTFSS
Scheduled crawls plus URL list

Crawls the website on a schedule and additionally checks selected pages at a fixed interval. This is how Botify with AlertPanel and seoClarity with Content Guard work.

MTWTFSS
All pages in a queue

Requests all pages one after another, again and again, important ones more often. This is how Conductor Monitoring, formerly ContentKing, works.

MTWTFSS
Crawl on your own computer

Crawls on demand or on a schedule while the computer is running. This is how Screaming Frog works.

MTWTFSS
Crawl of the websiteindividual requests in betweenSchematic, one week from Monday to Sunday

The boundaries are fluid. Hourly crawls come close to ongoing monitoring, but at Lumar each one uses up URL allowance. What matters is which pages are checked how often and what happens between two checks.

What searchVIU does not replace

If one of these points matters to you, another tool is a better fit, or you stay with Lumar.

Tests in the CI/CD pipeline

searchVIU crawls staging and DEV regularly, including behind password protection. There is no pipeline integration that stops a build like Lumar Protect.

AI visibility in many engines

By default, searchVIU queries ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode weekly. More engines and daily queries can be added. Lumar measures six engines, up to daily.

Actions via MCP

The searchVIU MCP server reads the data. You cannot start crawls or create tasks through it; with Lumar you can.

Accessibility and Lighthouse

searchVIU has no dedicated accessibility module based on WCAG, nor Lighthouse tests for many URLs. Lumar offers both as modules.

SSO and German interface

There is no single sign-on. The interface is in English, consulting is available in German and English.

Jira and open API

searchVIU does not create tickets in Jira; alerts go out by email, Slack, Teams or webhook. There is no public API. Data is available via the MCP server or, on request, in BigQuery.

Frequently asked questions

Is Deepcrawl the same as Lumar?
Yes. Deepcrawl has been called Lumar since September 29, 2022. According to Lumar, the new name reflects the expansion from a crawler to a broader platform.
How much does Lumar cost?
Lumar does not publish prices. You get a quote via a form. Lumar charges based on a URL allowance per billing period, and extensions such as HTML storage and screenshots cost additional credits per URL.
Is there a cheaper Deepcrawl alternative?
Public prices are available from Screaming Frog at €245 per year per user, Sitebulb Cloud from £95 per month, Audisto with monitoring from €199 per month for 10,000 pages and searchVIU from €399 per month, 50,000 URLs included. The prices refer to different units, and the scope varies greatly. So compare the capabilities in the table first and then the price.
Does Lumar monitor the website between crawls?
Lumar works with scheduled crawls, which can be set up to hourly, and with Protect tests before release. Dedicated monitoring between crawls and dedicated robots.txt monitoring are not documented. Lumar loads the robots.txt with every crawl.
Which Lumar alternative is suitable for relaunches?
Lumar compares a test site with the live website, but has no redirect mapping. searchVIU compares every URL before and after the relaunch, weighted by clicks, and includes redirect mapping. Screaming Frog can compare crawls with URL mapping; the redirect mapping is created by hand there.
