GEO tools compared

Nine tools that measure whether and how AI answers mention your brand. With engines, interval, prices and technical basis, as of October 2026.

searchVIU is one of the tools in this comparison. How we compared them and where the information comes from is explained at the end of the page.

What a GEO tool measures

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. A GEO tool asks AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode the same questions again and again and analyzes the answers. It measures whether your brand is mentioned, in which position, in what tone, and which pages the answer cites as a source.

Keep three things apart here. Is your brand only mentioned, is a page cited as a source, or does someone actually click through to your website afterwards? The tools measure this differently, and not every tool measures everything.

What sets the tools apart

  • Engines and interval. Some query nine engines every day, others three once a week. Almost everywhere, more engines and a shorter interval cost more money.
  • Prompt data. Profound, Ahrefs, SISTRIX and Semrush have databases on what people ask AI tools. Others work only with the prompts you create yourself.
  • Technical basis. Whatever AI bots are not allowed to fetch via robots.txt is also missing from the answers. Only a few tools also check robots.txt, llms.txt and bot requests.

AI answers vary from run to run. One query per day or week is therefore a sample, and only becomes meaningful over weeks and many prompts.

Three types of GEO tool

The nine tools work in three ways. The graphic shows schematically what each type queries over one week.

AI queries only

Queries AI engines with fixed prompts, usually daily, and analyzes mentions, sources and sentiment. These tools do not crawl the website itself. This is how Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI and Scrunch work.

MTWTFSS
SEO suite with AI module

Rankings, keyword data and a site audit, plus prompts at a fixed interval. This is how SISTRIX, Semrush, Ahrefs and Conductor work.

MTWTFSS
Monitoring with AI module

A complete crawl every week and Page Watch for the most important pages, plus AI queries once a week, robots.txt and llms.txt. This is how searchVIU works.

MTWTFSS
Crawl of the websiteindividual page requests in betweenQuery to AI enginesSchematic, one week from Monday to Sunday

Agent Analytics at Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI and Scrunch counts how often AI bots fetch your pages.

Which tool answers which question

Are we mentioned in AI answers?

All tools on this page measure this. They differ in engines, interval and number of prompts.

Which sources do the answers cite?

Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Scrunch, SISTRIX, Ahrefs, Conductor and searchVIU show the cited pages or domains.

Can AI bots fetch our pages at all?

searchVIU checks the robots.txt every 15 minutes per AI bot and the llms.txt once a day. Peec AI checks the robots.txt in its audit, Otterly.AI, Scrunch and Semrush check individual pages. Conductor Monitoring checks the robots.txt.

How often do AI bots come by?

Profound, Peec AI, Scrunch, Otterly.AI (from the Standard plan) and Ahrefs (Bot Analytics, beta) analyze bot requests, searchVIU with the log file analysis add-on.

What is rated is the providers' AI offering. For SISTRIX, Semrush, Ahrefs and Conductor, the cell says when a capability is only part of the rest of the package.

A combination often fits. If you need many engines every day, take a specialist. If you want to know whether the website is reachable for AI bots, you also need a tool that checks robots.txt, llms.txt and bot requests.

What searchVIU does not replace

Other tools on this page cover these points better. If one of them matters to you, a specialist fits better or complements searchVIU.

Many engines every day

By default, searchVIU queries ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode once a week. More engines and daily queries are available as an option. Profound, Conductor and Scrunch measure seven to nine engines, many tools daily.

Data on real AI prompts

searchVIU derives the prompts from your keywords and your own specifications. How often a topic comes up in AI chats is shown by Profound, Ahrefs, SISTRIX and Semrush, and by Peec AI as relative demand per prompt.

Trying it without a conversation

You start searchVIU with a demo. Profound, SISTRIX and Conductor have a self-service trial.

Content and AI marketing

searchVIU does not write content. Profound has an agent for this, Conductor a content writer.

German interface and SSO

The searchVIU interface is in English, and there is no SSO. Consulting is available in German and English.

Frequently asked questions

What is a GEO tool?
A tool that regularly queries AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode with fixed prompts. It shows whether your brand is mentioned, in which position, in what tone and which sources the answers cite. Some tools also check whether AI bots are allowed to fetch your pages and actually do so.
Which tools show which sources AI answers cite?
Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Scrunch, SISTRIX, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Conductor and searchVIU show the cited pages or domains. Peec AI and SISTRIX break this down to the individual URL, Conductor also counts citations per subfolder. searchVIU also lists the sources that AI answers cite for competitors but not for you. And searchVIU shows whether the engines find and cite your own website.
Measure daily or weekly?
A daily interval shows fluctuations earlier, but costs more with many providers. For trends over weeks, a weekly interval is often enough if enough prompts are running.
Is the AI module of my SEO suite enough?
For a first overview, often yes. SISTRIX currently includes its AI features at no extra cost, Semrush and Ahrefs offer their own modules. The specialists usually measure more engines and show more detail on sources and competitors.
How much does a GEO tool cost?
Public entry prices start at $29 per month (Otterly.AI). Peec AI starts at €85 per month, or €70 with annual payment. Scrunch costs from $250 per month with annual payment. The AI modules of the SEO suites cost from €47 (Ahrefs) or $99 (Semrush); at SISTRIX the features are currently included in the package. Profound and Conductor only state prices in a conversation. At searchVIU, AI visibility costs from €199 per month. You add it to SEO Monitoring from €399, so together from €598 per month.
Does a GEO tool also check whether AI bots are allowed to fetch my website?
Only a few do. searchVIU checks the robots.txt every 15 minutes per AI bot and the llms.txt once a day, both as part of SEO Monitoring. Peec AI checks the robots.txt in its audit, Otterly.AI, Scrunch and Semrush check individual pages. Profound, Peec AI, Scrunch, Otterly.AI (from the Standard plan) and Ahrefs (Bot Analytics, beta) analyze which bots actually come by.
